Feature of The Month: Pipit Zakka Store

First off, what is Zakka?

Zakka is a fashion and/or design phenomenon that has spread worldwide from Japan. It can basically refer to anything that improves your home, daily life or appearance; from daily household items,fashion and contemporary handmade items. The items are usually regarded as kitsch and quirky.

 

Welcome to Pipit Zakka Store

The founders of Pipit is the husband and wife team, Mike and Ivery who started Pipit back in 2006. Pipit served as a platform to gather like-minded artists, designers and also to showcase Indie artwork. They started out organizing fun 1-day events known as the Pipit Wonderful Market. I used to always go for their events as I have always had an interest in art & design. It was my go-to event to discover not only international artists but to also support and get to know more local artists who showcase their creative works. It was a very niche market back then but I believe this duo played an important role in contributing to the creative boom now in Malaysia.

With their humble online business and cosy physical store, Pipit Zakka has become a popular avenue for us- stationery enthusiast to purchase quality goods.

Although Pipit no longer hosts big events, once in awhile they do hosts smaller events at their gallery-esque store space. They have now grown and carries various international and local brands and a showcases a wide variety of handmade products and stationery on their website and in store.

Looking for interesting reads? Pipit also carries books & zines like Kinfolk, Frankie Magazine, Flow and Little Thing.

Stationery brands like Maste, Traveler’s Notebook, MT Tape, Aimez le Style and the latest addition; Classiky are also very popular items. There’s also a variety of pretty postcards, notebooks, rubber stamps, wrapping papers and stickers in every corner of their beautiful store which is currently all decked out for the Christmas season!

You will also find a variety of handmade plush toys, bags, accessories and fabric material. I love the cosy feeling the mixture and variety of items give to their space. The creative duo also have used recycled materials to create displays for the products in store. Go through their little boxes on the walls and floor and you might find some interesting items.

Every nook and cranny of Pipit Zakka Store is filled with little surprises so keep your eyes open to the little joys you can find.

If you’d like to catch their little mascot – the cutie handsome BeiBei, visit their brick-and-mortar store on Sundays. Sorry to disappoint you guys, but BeiBei only works on that one day out of the 3 days Pipit is open.
